Happy Memorial Day

I would just like to take a moment to acknowledge the sacrifice of those who died so we all could live in freedom.
Too bad our Commander-in-Chief doesn't feel that's worth doing.

Government Efficiency

Got an email from the courts that they could not process my SecurePass because my registration fees are delinquent. This is not possible, because I only owed one fee, which they would not have let me swear in without paying. I call. I am informed that I have not paid any fees since 2001. I say that I was admitted in 2010. They say they'll investigate.
Get a call back. There was a data entry error: 2-0-0-1 instead of 2-0-1-0!
Yes, the courts are run by the government!

School Board Elections

The school board elections are today.
I am voting the budget down. The board is asking for another tax hike. Have the schools gotten better? They haven't. Are the schools better than other nearby districts with lower costs? Not that I can see.
I am willing to pay to live around people who can read, write, and do basic arithmetic, but that can be accomplished for less than what the school board is asking.

So What Happens Now?

So I got admitted about a week ago-and nothing's really changed. I'm still scraping by on per diam work. I'm in more or less the same condition I was in on May 1st, I just have a new title (Esquire). I've turned a major page in my life-but I'm not quite sure what to write next.
