Bush Hypocracy

Bush has said he will not take with Cuba under Raul Castro because "It'll give great status to those who have suppressed human rights and human dignity."
If he cares so much about human rights, why are we allies with Saudi Arabia? Why are we propping up theocracies in Iraq and Afghanistan? I'd rather live in Cuba than in US ally Saudi Arabia, or in Musharraf's Pakistan-at least Cuba is an equal-opportunity dictatorship, without extra sanctions against women and religious minorities.

Dinner with Dad

I met my father for dinner last night.
It was really nice to see him. My parents do so much for me (I found out at dinner they're paying for a 2 year renewal for my apartment!), all I can do is give them some companionship. At least it's something.

No Telecom Immunity!

Senator Obama (who I hope becomes President!) has voted in favor of the Dodd-Feingold amendment to the FISA Act, refusing to grant immunity to telecom companies who violate our privacy by giving our records to the government.

Baseball Hearings

I watched some of the baseball steroid hearings.
My question is: WHY is this a Congressional matter? Has Iraq been sorted out? Has the subprime crisis been sorted out? How about terrorist threats to the United States? Have all the serious problems been worked out, so Congress now has time to focus on cheating in a professional sport, something that does not affect the American people in any significant way?

Giants Win!!!

New York won the Super Bowl! I'm really a Jets fan, but as a person who lives in Westchester, was born in Sleepy Hollow when it was North Tarrytown, and was raised in the NY metro area (Central Jersey), I'm glad New York won.

Rent Increase

I got my lease renewal offer yesterday (mandatory for rent stabilized apartments in Westchester). Luckily, my rent's not going up that much-under $100, for either a 1 or 2 year renewal. I'm glad I'll be able to stay in this apartment.
